Can I use Unbounce landing pages on my own website/domain?

Yes and no, but mostly yes. You can set up a CNAME entry in your hosting DNS settings to enable you to run your landing pages from a custom subdomain such as promo.yourwebsite.com which will set your landing pages to appear at http://promo.yourwebsite.com/landing-page-name/. If you want to run your whole website via Unbounce you can also setup your entire domain in the same way (by using www.yourwebsite.com as the Custom Domain).

Full instructions can be found in the Account > Custom Domain area of Unbounce (after you log in).

We still host your landing pages for you - but they now get to appear as if they are on your site. Magic.

How do I set up a conversion goal for my landing page?

Conversion Goals are what enables Unbounce to track the success of your landing pages.

You can set which action on your page should be measured as a conversion by clicking on the "Conversion Goals" tab in the page editor as shown below.

The conversion goal you choose can be any link you reference on the page (via a button or text link) or it can be the action of submitting a lead gen form.

Setting Multiple Conversion Goals

We are currently working on the ability for you to set and track multiple conversion goals - so that you can measure the impact on secondary interactive elements. Look out for this feature in an upcoming release.

How do I set up an A/B test?

Starting a test is nice and simple. From your dashboard, click on the page you want to test and you'll see the "Page Overview" screen. This includes your A/B Test Centre where you'll set up your test as follows:

Create a new page variant - you can start with a blank page or with a duplicate of your current page (easiest method).

faq-how-to-set-up-an-a-b-test

Make changes to your new page variant (update the messaging and Call To Action, images and layout etc.) and save this new page.

Give your new variant a traffic weight (the % split of traffic you'd like to send to this test variant). You can do a straight even (50/50) split to make your test run more quickly (more traffic to the test variants will provide a statistically valid test more quickly), or you can just pass a little traffic (10%) if you're current champion page is doing well and you want to minimize the risk of your new page not converting as well.

Re-publish the page (big green button) and watch the stats to see how your new page performs.

A Successful Test?

If your challenger page variant is outperforming the champion (and you've sent enough traffic to it for the confidence to be high - e.g. 95%) then you can promote the challenger to be your new champion page. This will discard the current champion.

Do you have a list of upcoming features?

Missing features! Surely you jest? We don't have our feature roadmap available at this time, but if you have a feature request you can submit an idea to our New Ideas List. That way we can discuss it with you and other members of the Unbounce community.

If you see an idea on the list that you like, you can "Star" it to help us prioritize.

I need to link to a privacy policy from my landing page. How do I do that?

Speaking of feature requests, here's one that we're planning on building in the future. Right now you will need to link to an external page on your main website for this type of functionality.

We are planning on providing the ability to have your terms of service or privacy policy (or anything else) be displayable in a "Lightbox" style window layer directly on your page (removing the need for extra pages or external links).

For an example of how a Lightbox window looks - go to your Unbounce Dashboard and click on the "Watch the Quick Start Video" link on the right-hand side.

I want to run an A/B test, but I don't know what to test. What do you suggest?

Great question! There are many things to consider when trying to optimize your landing pages. Sometimes the smallest change can have a dramatic effect on conversion, but you can also make dramatic changes and see no change. It's very campaign and demographic dependent.

Here is a quick list of things you can try changing:

  • The primary value proposition or campaign messaging
  • Simplify the page with less text, or separate it into bullet points for greater clarity
  • Change the wording of your primary Call To Action (CTA)
  • Make the CTA bigger
  • Add a directional cue (such as an arrow) that points to the CTA
  • Make your lead gen form shorter

How do I add my Google Analytics code?

To add your Google Analytics tracking code into your Unbounce landing page follow one of the two methods described below. They both work. Google Analytics provides two different types of tracking snippets, the Traditional snippet and the Asynchronous snippet. Google (and Unbounce) recommend the Asynchronous code.

The new way - the asynchronous code snippet

Click on the Scripts button in the Editor Toolbar (as shown below).

faq-scripts

Name the script "Google Analytics" (or whatever you want) and paste the asynchronous Javascript code you got from Google Analytics into the space provided like the example below. (Put the code in the HEAD section).

How do I get Google Analytics working on my Subdomain?

Many of our customers want to track their Unbounce-hosted landing pages as part of their overall funnel. The following Google article describes how to set this up for customers using our sub-domain feature.

How do I change the URL of a published page?

Currently this isn't possible. A good workaround is to duplicate your page, then you can change the URL of the new version prior to publishing it. You can also contact us to request the URL to be unlocked or changed manually by our technical team.

If I design a landing page I like - how can I re-use it?

We are planning a community feature where you'll be able to save your page as a template - and share it (if you so desire) with others in your company or the entire Unbounce community. For now we'd suggest duplicating your page and perhaps naming this version "TEMPLATE: Your template name" for easy reference. Then re-duplicate this page whenever you need a new version.

How can I get my Unbounce landing pages to work with my Google AdWords campaigns?

First you need to set up a CNAME entry as described here. This will allow you to match your display URL with your destination URL.

Google will approve a destination URL that is a sub-domain of your display URL. They just want to make sure the top-level domain of yourdomain.com match for both display and destination.

Example (acceptable)
Destination URL: promo.yourdomain.com/product
Display URL: yourdomain.com

An exception to this is if you're using a domain that hosts many different independent entities like blogspot.com or wordpress.com (blogspot.com as your display and myblog.blogspot.com as your destination would not be approved).

You can read a bit more about it here and here...

How do I integrate my lead-gen form with 3rd parties?

We are working on methods of integrating with popular Email Service Providers (ESPs), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms and social media services. As the list grows, we'll provide instructions on how you can connect to these services.

How do I use an Unbounce page as the root of my custom domain?

Follow these steps to use an Unbounce landing page at the root level of your custom domain:

  1. Create a landing page
  2. Visit the "Page Overview" screen (either close the editor or enter the "Page Overview" by selecting your page via the dashboard)
  3. Double-click the URL or click the "Change URL" button
  4. Delete the path (which should be highlighted) and push Enter
  5. Click the "I'm Finished" button
  6. Publish your page

Note: if your page is already published, you will not be able to edit the URL. Please contact us if you need to change it and we will make the change for you on our side.

faq-root-domain-th

Your page should now have a url that is just your custom domain, without a path (e.g. http://info.mydomain.com). You can still publish pages with paths in their URLs like you normally would.

Are robots and spiders included in the visitor limit for my subscription?

No. We filter visits from known robots and spiders before they're counted in your page's statistics. Browsers, spiders, and robots identify themselves to web servers with what's known as a "user agent" name. We remove any visits where the user agent name contains "bot", "crawl", "index", "seek", "spider", "slurp", or "search", which accounts for all the popular robots, such as Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, and most of the less popular ones as well.

What does Unbounce mean?

Glad you asked. The name was derived from the desire to reverse the marketing analytics term known as bounce rate - hence to Unbounce.
